Thomas Jack Simonds Sr, 80

Thomas Jack Simonds Sr, 80, of 444 Shepard Road, Sayre, Pa., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at Ashton Healthcare, Athens.

Tom was born on Jan. 19, 1932 in Sayre.

He married Helen Irene Scrivens and conceived their first child Tommy Jack and was then sent to Korea to serve his country.

After his military service, he had Connie Marie and Richard Grant Simonds.

He was a man of many trades and perfection. He worked as a painter in the painter's union and also did wood working.

Tom then started his own successful business Tom Simonds and Son Excavating with his son Rick. They enjoyed over 30 years of working together as one of the most sought after excavating contractors in the valley.

Tom grew up with a passion for horses and pick up trucks. He was the president of the Skyline Coral. He spent Sunday afternoons cheering on his favorite NASCAR driver. Tom and his wife Helen of 60 years did many trips on their Honda Gold Wing and were members of the Honda Gold Wing club.

He was a lifetime member of the J.E. Wheelocks fire company in Milltown. He was also a member of the VFW and Masons.

He was predeceased by his parents Grant and Martha Stevens Simonds of Milltown; his loving wife, Helen Irene Scrivens; son in law, Fred Slife; brothers, David and Ronald; and sisters Beatrice, Winifred and Esther.

He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Moore; children Tommy Jack and Sharron, Connie Slife and Richard Grant and Michelle; grandchildren Tommy III and Chris Simonds, Cody and Brian Wurst, Cali Slife and Summer and Morgan Simonds; and great grandchildren Kashmere Simonds and Bralynn Slife.

Tom loved seeing and being with his family. He was always happy and full of joy when they came to visit him. He was a proud citizen of Milltown and the Valley. He will be loved and missed by many.

The family would like to express a special thank you to many doctors and nurses who tended to him on the 9th floor of RPH. He especially enjoyed the staff and residence of Ashton Healthcare.

A time of gathering with family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad St., Waverly, New York.

The celebration of Tom's life will follow the visitation with the Rev. William Wells honoring his memory at noon.

A special tribute to Tom's life will be presented on DVD during the funeral service.
