CCC to Present Speaker on the Effects of Bullying

CORNING, NY -- Corning Community College is proud to present “The Effects of Bullying, Suicidal Thoughts and/or Depression on Academic Performance and How to Respond” from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 in the Triangle Lounge in The Commons building on the Spencer Hill campus in Corning, NY. This event, co-sponsored by CCC’s Wellness Education Department and Student Association, is free and open to the public.
Popular speaker and author of Locker 572, LoraLee Kodzo, and Dr. Rodrigo Samodal, a medical and professional expert from Guthrie Clinic will discuss the topic of bullying, suicidal thoughts and/or depression on academic performance and how to respond. The speakers draw from real life experiences and professional knowledge to present these very real issues of our time and our community. The speakers will allow time in the second hour of the presentation for conversation and interaction with the audience.
Kodzo has over a decade of experience teaching and mentoring senior leaders in the Department of Defense, federal government agencies and Fortune 50 companies. Her tumultuous youth has drawn her to champion the edgy issues young people face. She has recently published Locker 572, a novel about bullying and suicide for teens. Ms. Kodzo addresses 7th to 12th grade audiences in both public and private schools across the country and participates in bullying prevention and suicide prevention whenever possible.
Dr. Samodal practices family medicine at his offices in Big Flats and Watkins Glen. He was educated at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical School of Medicine in Manila, Philippines. He interned at the Miagao Rural Health Center in Miagao, Iloilo City, Philippines. He did his residency at the Guthrie Clinic-Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. His professional memberships include the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the New York State Academy of Family Physicians. His specialty interests include teenage and adolescent depression.
This program is timely as October is Stop America’s Violence Everywhere (SAVE) month.
