Roger N. Ulmer, 88

Roger N. Ulmer, age 88 of Columbia Cross Roads, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 at the Bradford County Manor. Roger was born March 25, 1924 in Rittman, Ohio son of the late Samuel and Lilly (Repsher) Ulmer. He graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1941. Roger was a veteran of World War II. He joined the U.S. Navy on Dec. 25, 1942 and was honorably discharged on Feb. 2, 1946. He married the former Marjorie Houseworth two days after returning home from the service on Feb. 4, 1946 in Baltimore, Md. and they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Following a career that spanned 47 years, he retired from the Reigel Paper Corporation on May 30, 1986. Following retirement he and Marjorie then moved to Bradford County.

Roger was an active member of his community in many civic memberships, which included the Troy and Gillett Senior Citizens, life member of the East Smithfield and Troy V.F. W. Post 7378 where he served as Chaplain. Prior to moving to Bradford County Roger previously served three terms on the Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church Council, organized the Upper Black Eddy Sportsman Association and served as President for 12 years. He also helped organize the P.T.O. at Bridgeton Elementary School where he served 6 years on the school board and was also treasurer. Roger was also a member of the Palisades School Board and served as Treasurer while it was being built. Roger was also Auditor of Bridgetown Township for three years and worked diligently to secure the original financing for the Little League of Bridgeton Township.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years Marjorie H. Ulmer of Columbia Cross Roads; a daughter Joann Hoppaugh of Columbia Cross Roads; grandson, Daniel R. (Kimberly) Hoppaugh of Columbia Cross Roads; great-grandchildren, Paige Cook and Daniel Hoppaugh, Jr.; and his nieces, nephews and friends. His parents and a brother and sister predeceased Roger.

Funeral services are private and under the direction of the Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home Inc., 1093 West Main St., Troy, PA 16947. Memorials in Roger's memory can be made to the Bradford County Manor's Activity Fund, 15900 Route 6, Troy, PA 16947 or to the Bradford County Library, 16093 Route 6, Troy, PA 16947.
