Catherine E. Gurney Stanley, 59

On the 16th of Oct., 2012, Catherine E. Gurney Stanley, 59, formerly of Athens, of Carlotta, Calif., lost her courageous battle to cancer with her family by her side.
She was born on April 17, 1953 in Miami, Fla., the daughter of George R. "Ray" and Patricia Weller Gurney. Catherine worked for the Bridgeville School System and owned and operated Alder Grove Nursery with her husband for many years. She was an avid quilter and belonged to the quilting society in Humboldt County, Calif.
She is predeceased by her father George R. Gurney, her maternal grandparents Harold and Hazel Weller, and paternal grandparents George and Mabel Gurney.
Catherine is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kent Stanley of Carlotta, Calif.; her mother Patricia Weller Gurney of Nichols, N.Y.; brother John Gurney of Holbrook; sisters Evelyn (Jeff) Johnson of Ishpeming, Mich., Patricia Martin of Towanda and Janet Gurney (Judy Phillips) of Indianapolis, Ind.; aunt Lois Jones of Midlothian, Va.; uncle Harold Weller of Miami, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial service will be held on Nov. 4, 2012 in Grizzley State Park, Carlotta, Calif. Memorial donations may be made in Catherine's memory to: Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Ave., Eureka, CA 95501.
