Clara Vliet, 93, formerly of Canton and Whitehouse, N.J. passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 14, 2012 at the Bradford County Manor.
Born on Nov. 12, 1918, Clara was a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Katherine (Lomerson) Vliet. She possessed a special appreciation and knowledge of horses all her life. In earlier years, Clara worked as a caretaker for the Johnson & Johnson Corporation's Estate in Oldwick, N.J.
In 1963, she was proud to be involved with the U.S. Equestrian Team's training facility in Gladstone, N.J. She also cared for racehorses at the Paxton Estate in Bucks County and later was employed by the Lona Lobell Estate in Bedminster, N.J where she oversaw their horses until retiring in 1981.
Clara was a former member of Canton's Senior Citizens Group and the Canton Hospitality House. In addition to her love for horses, she enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers.
Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In keeping with Miss Vliet's wishes, there are no public funeral services. Interment will be in the Fairmont Cemetery, Fairmont, N.J. Share online condolences at www.pepperfuneralhomes.com
