Barbara Jean Huynh, 53, formerly of Towanda, passed away at her home in Harrisburg on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012. She was born on March 21, 1959, daughter of Violet Koser and the late Guy E. Pardoe Sr.
Barbara was a 1977 graduate of Towanda Area High School and a 1979 graduate of the Central Penn College in Summerdale. Barbara married the love of her life, AVan Huynh on April 28, 1979. She worked for DuPont for several years and then took a job working for PennDOT and ended her career with PennDOT in the accounting department. Barbara, as her co-workers would tell you, was a joy to be around, a good worker, and kept an upbeat attitude, and could not stand stupidity. She was a member of the Lt. Asa Stevens Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In 1999, she was diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension in which she was told her life span would be 3-5 years, if she was lucky. She was allergic to the medicine and she told the doctor, I am your challenge and I have no intention of dying. So what are we going to do about it? A team of doctors came up with a solution, and with using the Hickman Catheter 24/7, she was able to live a normal life for the next 13 years. She had two things going for her, her optimistic attitude and her zest for life. Her greatest challenge was two years ago when she became a diabetic. She enjoyed life and she lived for her grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband, AVan Huynh of Harrisburg; two children, son, Jared of East Boston, Mass. and daughter, Mai-Lynh (Jeff) Cross of Williamsburg, Va.; her grandchildren, Savannah, Kaleigh, Maddox, and Camden Cross; mother Violet Koser of Macedonia; sister, Sandra Rodriguez of Phoenix, Ariz.; and brothers, Guy (Alena) of Lebanon, N.H. and James (Danielle) of Standing Stone. She has numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Barbara was predeceased by her father, Guy E. Pardoe, Sr. on Jan. 15, 2010, step-father, John Koser on Feb. 13, 2008, and brother, Michael, Aug. 23, 1994, grandparents Guy French on July 22, 1979 and Alice French on Dec. 24, 1999 of Standing Stone and Edith Pardoe on Feb. 7, 1971, and Grant Pardoe on Aug. 13, 1997 of Towanda.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Inc. at 2100 Linglestown Road in Harrisburg with visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Shoop's Cemetery Garden of Rest in Harrisburg. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215. Online donations can be made at www.joslin.org/giving/memorial_gifts.html
