Clinton Gerould "Jerry" Schoonover, 63, of Standing Stone Township, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Sept. 25, 2012 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. "Jerry," as he was known by his family and friends, was born in Sayre, on Oct. 5, 1948 the son of the late Reginald L. and Dorothy Gerould Schoonover. Raised on the family farm, he worked side-by-side with his father from a very young age. Jerry graduated from Towanda High School in 1966 and married the former Delores Ann Clark in 1967. Together they settled on the Schoonover homestead and raised four children. Jerry and Delores recently celebrated 45 years of marriage.
Jerry owned, operated, and worked on his dairy farm until he sold his herd in 2006. He also drove school bus for the Towanda School District and owned bus 11 for the past 40 years. Jerry was always known as a "fun" bus driver to the kids.
Jerry's biggest love was for his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was often found helping them study spelling words, taking them for ranger rides, hunting with his grandsons, enjoying their football games and cuddling with the youngest.
Jerry loved the farmlands and wildlife. Jerry and Dee often took rides around the land, taking in the gorgeous views and spending time together. He loved to be in the woods and was always cutting fire wood and stacking it neatly in piles for future use to help the family. He was an avid Phillies fan, rarely missing a game on TV.
Recently, Jerry was excited to help his son bring livestock back to the farm and loved seeing the cows grazing in the pasture again. He collected fresh eggs daily for his family and neighbors. He loved being on the tractor, whether plowing or raking hay. Jerry once told his daughter that he did most of his praying on the tractor, in the fresh air.
Although his unexpected death has left his family with heavy hearts, his legacy of memories can be found on the Schoonover farm and homestead; a place where all will come to reflect, find comfort and love.
He is survived by his wife, Delores C. Schoonover at home; children, Karen (Jay) Abbott, Clinton G. (Jenifur Stroud) Schoonover Jr., Reginald (Stacey) Schoonover and Amy (Tim) Dunn all of Standing Stone Township; grandchildren Logan and Madison Abbott, Evan Schoonover, Tahlor Heath, Austin, Gabby, and Lilly Schoonover, and Emily and Anna Dunn; sisters and brothers-in-law, Regina and Norman Roof and Mary Ann and Jim Cashdollar; brother-in-law, Scott Wickwire; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Duane and Carol Clark and John and Brenda Clark.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Wickwire and an infant brother.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Standing Stone Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
