Janet L. Peterson (Jannie), 70

Janet L. Peterson (Jannie), 70, of Athens, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter, lost her two-month battle with cancer and a life-long battle with schizoaffective disorder and Parkinson's disease on Aug. 1, 2012.
She is survived by her sons, David (Cris) Peterson of Hammondsport, N.Y., William (Cindy) Peterson of Sussex, Wisc. and Michael Peterson of Prattsburg, N.Y.: a daughter, Toni (George) Ballenstedt of Sayre; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were such a joy to her, Jessica, Amanda, and Matthew Peterson, Anthony (Michelle) Peterson, Brittany (Geoff) Anderson, Carly and Chloe Peterson, Nathan Peterson, Miranda, Anthony Jr., Kasidy, Jared and Kaylee Peterson and Paige Anderson; her angel-sister, Jacquelynn (Randy) Baldwin of Carrollton, Va.; her brother-in-law, Major Robert (Evi) Jordan of Ft. Meade, Md.; along with many special nieces, nephews, cousins (including a very special cousin, Alma Josbena of Towanda, PA) and many friends.
Janet was born in Olean, N.Y. on Oct. 4, 1941, the daughter of the late John H. and Cleone E. (Allen) Bish.
Janet was a long time member of the Sayre Christian Church in Sayre, and a proud graduate of the Athens High School Class of 1959.
In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by another special sister, Majol "Midge" Jordan in 1995.
A special thank you to Dr. Philip Lowry, Dr. M. Edrissian and the 8th floor staff at the Guthrie Clinic, staff of Elderwood Rehabilitation Center, Guthrie Hospice, Father Bryan Wright and especially, Rev. James Donahoo.
Janet was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her perseverance despite many life challenges will always inspire us.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home Inc., 225 South Main St., Athens. A service of remembrance and hope will be offered at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5 at the Sayre Christian Church, 427 S. Keystone Ave., Sayre.
Burial will be at Bradford County Memorial Park, Towanda at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Alliance on Mental Illness at their website, NAMI.org or to the angels at Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Road, Towanda, PA 18848.
