Stephen M. Borick, 89, of Wysox, Pa., passed away Sunday evening, July 8, 2012 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa. Stephen was born in Lopez, Pa., on June 1, 1923, a son of Michael and Anna Gulich Borick. A proud World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Battery B 72nd Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres. On Oct. 11, 1952 he married the former Dorothy Mingos at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Towanda. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years on Oct. 29, 2000. In early years, Stephen was employed by Thatcher Glass and Remington Rand in Elmira, N.Y. and was later employed Penelec in Towanda for many years retiring as line chief in July 1986. His memberships include SS Peter & Paul Church, Towanda Elks Lodge No. 2191, Towanda Gun Club, Beirne-Webster VFW Post No. 1568, and American Legion Post No. 42 in Towanda.
Surviving are his best friend/son and daughter-in-law Robert and Sandra Strickland Borick; grandchildren Scott (Josie) Borick, Jason (Christa) Borick, Eric (Erin) Borick, Christy (Don) McLinko, Mary (Mitch) Philippi, Renae (Ryan) Chamberlain and Sara Strickland; great-grandchildren Molly and Wyatt Borick, Hunter, Parker and Tristan Riddle, Brandon and Cearra McLinko, Macaria Benjamin and Cooper Chamberlain; sisters Eva Schneider and Mildred Black; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Nick, Mike, Frank, John, Daniel, Annie, Helen, Mary and Katherine "Babe."
The family will receive friends from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Third Street, Towanda, Pa. Interment will be in SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, North Towanda, with Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 according full military honors.
