Marion Estelle Beckwith, 96

Marion Estelle Beckwith, 96, of Rome, Pa., passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Towanda Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 8, 1915 in Windham, Pa., a daughter of the late Floyd and Ida (McKinsey) Tyrrell. She married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Beckwith on Aug. 2, 1931. Most of their married life was spent on Tyrrell Hill, farming and raising a family of six children. Following Glenn's death, in 1985 Marion sold the farm and moved to Seven Hills Trailer Park in Rome. She was a lifetime member of the Windham Ladies Aid. Marion enjoyed spending time with children and at one time served as a 4-H leader. She caringly opened her heart and was a ready and willing babysitter for the grandchildren and neighborhood children. In addition, she also enjoyed gardening, cooking and farming.

Marion is survived by her sons Hugh (Delores) Beckwith of Rome, Pa., Robert (Emma) Beckwith of Zolfo Springs, Fla., Philip (Patricia) Beckwith of Rome, Pa., Brian Beckwith of Rome, Pa., Michael (June) Beckwith of Erie, Colo.; daughter Mary (Elmer) Folk of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister-in-law Sarah Tyrrell or Rome, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; 45 great- grandchildren; 29 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Marion was predeceased by her parents Floyd and Ida Tyrrell; a daughter-in-law Patricia Beckwith; a great-grandson Curtis Schaeffer; two sisters Leona Brown, Norma Milner and a brother Vernon Tyrrell.

A memorial service and celebration of Marion's life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the North Orwell Union Church. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Valley Home Cemetery. A luncheon and time of sharing will be held at the Windham Community Hall.
