CCC Breaks Ground on New Residence Halls
5/4/2012 8:06:00 AM
CORNING, NY -- Corning Community College (CCC) hosted a milestone ground-breaking event on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. to celebrate the construction of the new Student Residence Hall. Invited guests include local political, business, and education leaders; members of the CCC Regional Board of Trustees (RBOT) and Corning Community College Development Foundation Board; and CCC students, faculty, and staff.

During the spring of 2011 CCC’s Regional Board of Trustees unanimously approved student housing on campus. Their endorsement followed more than two years of careful study, and, since no public funds are allowed in this project, the Corning Community College Development Foundation (CCCDF) has advanced and managed the development of this initiative.

“Our research among New York’s community colleges with residential campuses provides strong evidence that a much richer, more vibrant learning environment for all our students will be the result of adding student housing to our Spencer Hill campus. There will be many more opportunities for students to interact with other engaged learners from different regions of New York and beyond.” Stated CCC’s president, Dr. Douglas, adding: “This is an exciting time for our campus community … this initiative will expand academics and student programs enhancing art, theatre and music productions, intramurals and athletics, along with leadership opportunities through the creation of new clubs and organizations. CCC will be more inviting and exciting than ever before.”

Construction will begin this spring on the three-story Student Residence Hall with 84 suites and room for 322 student residents. This $16 million building initiative is underwritten by the Corning Community College Development Foundation; was advanced in cooperation with the Steuben County Industrial Development Association and the Town of Corning; privately financed through local banking institutions Five Star Bank, Chemung Canal Trust Company and Elmira Savings Bank; and, project managed by Welliver, Inc. Construction will proceed through 2012 and the first half of 2013. CCC will welcome her first student-residents for the fall term 2013.

CCC is delighted to share construction progress via a live webcam: http://cam.corning-cc.edu.
