The Hoot: First Annual 5K Trail Run

CORNING, NY -- Corning Community College’s Spencer Crest Nature Center (SCNC) is proud to announce its first annual 5K trail run, “The Hoot,” on Saturday, May 19, 2012, with a race start time of 10:00 a.m.
The course will wind through the beautiful trails of Spencer Crest Nature Center, 2424 Spencer Hill Road, Corning, NY. Parking will be available at CCC’s Gymnasium, 1 Academic Drive, Corning, NY, just a quick walk (or jog) from SCNC. Handicapped spectators are welcome to be dropped off at the start line, located in the SCNC parking lot.
Race day registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 9:45 a.m. Pre-register by May 4, 2012 and be entered into a drawing for a free pound of coffee from Market Street Coffee and Tea.
Race day registration fee is $20. Mail in your registration by May 11, 2012 and save $5. Proceeds will support the center’s educational programming and nature preservation efforts.
Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group with Special Awards for the overall top three males and females. Divisions are 18 and under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over. For more information, a trail map, elevation map, and registration forms visit www.spencercrest.org and click on “THE HOOT.”
Live music will be provided by TongueCutters at the nature center, both before and after the race. A two-hour live action broadcast will be provided by COOL 96. Refreshments will be available for post-race nutrition.
The month of May will mark one year since Spencer Crest merged with Corning Community College (CCC), and since then the nature center has undergone a variety of changes. Come join in on this fun trail race, run/walk or simply watch the action and explore the new Spencer Crest.
