Gladys Bristol, 89, of West Burlington, passed away Tuesday evening, April 24, 2012, at Sylvan Ridge Personal Care Home in Columbia Cross Roads.
Gladys Eleanor Wagner, "Ma" to her family and friends, was born on Nov. 7, 1922 in Limestone Township, Lycoming County. She was the only daughter and one of five children in the family of the late Lester and Jane (Welshans) Wagner. On Oct. 14, 1942, she and Richard "Dick" Bristol were married in the East Smithfield U.M. Church. They raised three children and were blessed with 55 years together before Dick's passing on July 4, 1998.
In 1947, the Bristols purchased the Sleepy Eye Dairy in West Burlington Township. Gladys enjoyed her life as a busy farm wife, and with hard work, the couple made many improvements to the farm before retiring in 1983. Gladys enjoyed doing many things, especially visiting with family and friends, shopping and trips to the casinos. In earlier years she bowled, square danced and golfed.
Surviving are her children, Myron (Shirley) Bristol of West Burlington, Maxine (Robert) Simpson of Towanda and Wanda (Bill) Murray of West Burlington; six grandchildren, Angie Ammerman, David (Kim) Bristol, Ron Simpson, Willie (Kelley) Murray, Dennis (Dee Dee) Murray and Rich Simpson; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and neighbors.
In addition to her husband Richard, she was predeceased by her four brothers; Lynn, Dale, Earl and Dean Wagner.
Calling hours are 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, April 27, at Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Drive in Canton. Rev. Dave Dressler will officiate her funeral service at noon. Burial will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park Cemetery. Those who wish may make a memorial in Gladys' name to the American Lung Assoc ., Marywood University, 2300 Adams Ave. Scranton, PA 18509.
