Eugene "Gene" Ward, 86, of South Waverly, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012 at home with his family by his side.
He was born Dec. 15, 1925 in Greensville, Tenn., the son of the late Thomas and Nellie Ward.
Eugene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed traveling and loved to spend time with his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife Vivian in 2010, whom he married on Sept. 1, 1945.
Eugene is survived by his daughter Carol Ward of South Waverly; grandchildren Warren and Lisa Howeler of Athens and Jeannie Howeler-Lewis and fiancé Jeff Post of Sayre; great-grandchildren Jonathan Howeler, Alia, Alexis, Allison, Alyssa, and Aliza Lewis, and Ashlee and Kyleigh Post; brother James (Alice) Ward of Towanda; and niece Linda Ginder.
Friends and family may call from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 225 South Main St., Athens. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. William Wells officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery.
