John Thomas Bennett, 86, formerly of Towanda Township, passed away Monday morning, April 16, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital in N. Towanda. John was born Jan. 29, 1926 in Monroeton, the son of Walter A. Bennett and Clara Mimi Benjamin Bennett. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. John was employed by the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad for over 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, the outdoors, gardening, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Paul W. and Christine Bennett of Towanda and Thomas J. and Valerie Bennett of Woolrich; grandchildren, Allison, Karyn, Dennis, Samantha, Shane and Lisa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Bennett, and sisters, Thelma Johnson, Catherine Hagadorn and Virginia Allen.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, with Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. There are no calling hours.
