HARRISBURG, PA -– Arts programs in Bradford County will benefit from $153,685 in state funding, announced state Reps. Matt Baker (R-Bradford/Tioga) and Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna).
“The 2011-12 Pennsylvania budget was a challenging one with many programs and services receiving reductions or eliminations in state funding. That being said, I am pleased that state grants for the arts were able to be continued and that worthwhile programs throughout Bradford County will be able to be maintained, said Baker. “I am also happy to learn that a significant portion of grants to the county will be used to foster arts in education, which I believe is an important component to the learning process.”
“These grants are vital in helping to promote various forms of art throughout our communities and enhance our quality of life. Not only does this funding help reinforce learning through various art media, but it reinforces lessons in the classroom through both performance and visual arts. My colleagues and I fought hard to ensure that arts funding did not receive the drastic cut that was proposed earlier this year,” Pickett said “As a result of our continued state commitment to the arts, I commend all of these organizations for their fine work to promote the arts in Bradford County and applaud their successful efforts in obtaining state grant funding,”
Funding is allocated as follows:
$18,034 for the support of the Bradford County Regional Arts Council.
$30,000 for the support of a Teacher Artist Partnership project at Columbia Child Development Program.
$30,000 for the support of a Teacher Artist Partnership project at Bradford-Tioga Head Start.
$70,796 for the support of a Council Initiated Partnership Project in Arts in Education in several northeast Pennsylvania counties, including Bradford County.
$4,039 for the support of the Northern Tier Cultural Alliance.
$816 for the support of the Wyalusing Community Corporation, Blue Heron Art Gallery.
Established in the late 1960s, the Council on the Arts' mission is to foster the excellence, diversity, and vitality of the arts in Pennsylvania and to broaden the availability of the arts throughout the state.
