Dushore to Use State Grant for Streambank Repairs
7/27/2011 11:38:00 AM
DUSHORE, PA -– The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will be awarding Dushore Borough a grant of $55,000 to help the municipality make repairs from damage sustained during April flooding, said Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna).

The Sullivan County municipality sustained severe erosion as a result of flooding on April 26. The grant will be used to install nearly 185 linear feet of riprap along the north and south banks of the Little Loyalsock Creek.

“The erosion caused by spring flooding severely impacted the banks of the Little Loyalsock and resulted in significant damage within Dushore,” Pickett said. “To ultimately help prevent future flash flooding from the creek, DEP has recognized that repairs must be made and is helping to offset the cost with this state grant.”

The erosion of the streambanks caused flood waters to cross Route 220 and flow into the town, causing damage to homes and businesses in the area. Dushore Borough, Cherry Township and Sullivan County were declared disaster areas due to the damage from the flash flooding.
