PennDOT to Aid Police in Aggressive-Driving Enforcement
7/9/2011 7:00:00 AM
HARRISBURG, PA -- PennDOT is announcing that part of a nearly $2.1 million statewide investment will help area police crack down on aggressive driving behaviors such as speeding, tailgating and running red lights.

Approximately 320 municipal police departments and the Pennsylvania State Police will carry out aggressive-driving enforcement activities in north central Pennsylvania from July 11 through Aug. 28 as part of a statewide enforcement wave. The theme for this wave is “Distracted Drivers are Aggressive Drivers,” as distracted drivers often exhibit aggressive driving behaviors like tailgating and speeding. Police will concentrate efforts on roadways that are known to have a high number of aggressive-driving crashes.

North central Pennsylvania police departments participating in the enforcement are: Troy and the Pennsylvania State Police (Bradford County), Bloomsburg, Hemlock Township, South Centre Township and the State Police (Columbia County), Williamsport, Old Lycoming Township and the State Police (Lycoming County), Danville, Mahoning Township and State Police (Montour County), Coal Township, Mount Carmel Township, Point Township , Northumberland, Shamokin, and the State Police (Northumberland County), Lewisburg and the State Police (Union County), and the State Police (Snyder, Tioga and Sullivan counties).

The aggressive-driving enforcement is a part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project and is funded by PennDOT’s investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
