Grant Furman, 24

Grant Furman of Milan, Pa., (Springfield Twp.) passed away on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, the result of an automobile accident. He was 24 years old.

Grant Thomas Furman was born on June 28, 1986, in Sayre. He was a son of Thomas and Nadine (Austin) Furman. Grant was a 2004 graduate of Troy High School and had completed three years of college at Penn State's Erie Campus majoring in Chemistry. He joined the U.S. Navy in October of 2008 and had just graduated in July from their Nuclear Power Training Program in Ballston Spa, N.Y.

Grant was a well-rounded young man. In addition to taking his academics very seriously, he played football and wrestled from first grade through his senior year in high school. He also liked to hike, golf and was a Penn State and Raiders football fan. Grant was outgoing, happy and a well-liked person. He will be forever remembered for his unique personality and positive attitude towards life.

Surviving are his parents, Thomas and Nadine Furman of Milan; two brothers, Thad Furman of Allentown, Pa., and Chase Furman of Bath, Pa.; maternal grandparents, Ed and Dorothy Austin of Troy; aunts and uncles, LaRue (Carlene) Austin and Ronald (Bonnie) Austin, all of Columbia Cross Roads; Wesley Austin, Mickey (Barbara) Austin and Cinda Baumunk, all of Troy; Julie (Jeff) Strope of Sylvania and Sharon (Bruce) McMail of Gillett, many cousins and special friends.

Grant was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Gordon and Wilma Furman.

Calling hours are 5 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Drive, in Canton. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Harkness Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by The U.S. Navy.
