Roberta L. Robbins, 77, formerly of Waverly, N.Y., passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 in Dade City, Florida due to complications of pneumonia. She was born October 5, 1931, in Waverly, the daughter of the late Louis and Florence Barnhart Rice.
Roberta will be remembered as a loving, nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother. “Berta” as everyone knew her, worked as a telephone operator, later at the Village Bakery, and then as a self employed hair dresser. Kind, loving, generous, compassionate, and always forgiving describe her, but most of all she will be remembered as one who always put others before herself.
Roberta is survived by her husband of 54 years Franklin; her children: Brian (Sam) and wife Marlene of Harrisburg, Frank (Cindy) Robbins, and Gina (Steve) Wright of Waverly. She was predeceased by daughter, Greta Pine. Grandchildren are Suzanne Bussiere, Chad Pine of Maine, Thomas Wright and Luke Robbins of Oswego, N.Y., Abby Robbins of Binghamton N.Y., and Joel, Timothy, Madeleine, Peter, and Dean Robbins of Harrisburg, as well as several great grandchildren.
Roberta is also survived by her siblings Church (Freda) Rice of Port Orange, Fla. and Phillis (Fred) Satterly of Sayre.
A time of gathering for family and friends will be held on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad St., Waverly, N.Y.
Funeral services to celebrate Roberta’s life will be held after calling hours at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ann Bey Canfield of the Waverly United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery in Athens.
