Deborah A. Clegg, 47 of Canton, Pa.
12/26/2002 5:54:00 AM
During the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 24th, Canton area resident Deborah A. (Cavalier) Clegg passed away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and brave battle with a debilitating illness. She was 47 years old.

Born in Atlantic City on April 29, 1955, she was one of four children in the family of Howard and Delores Cavalier.

Deborah lived more than half her life in the vicinity of the New Jersey sea shore. She met a man named Robert Clegg, and on June 21, 1986, they were united in marriage.

The Cleggs relocated to Canton, becoming the new owners of Baldwin's Hardware Store. Deb was a familiar figure to the store's regular patrons, always ready to assist a customer in locating a hard-to-find item. She also served as the business' bookkeeper.

Her daily involvement in the family store continued as long as her health would permit. Yet, even in times of suffering, she carried herself with grace and dignity, always with a concern for others and never alluding to her own trials in life.

In addition to helping run the hardware store, Deb was a devoted homemaker, wife and mother. The care and wellbeing of her family was of paramount importance to her. And if there was one passion that brightened her life almost as much as her family, it was her love of horses.

Deborah was a woman with an abiding faith in the Lord. She was an active member of the Grover Church of Christ.

Though often quiet and introspective, Deborah touched countless lives and endeared herself to the hearts of many in the Canton community.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Robert D. Clegg Sr., at home; her parents, Howard and Delores Cavalier of Port Republic, N.J.; sons, Robert D. Jr. and Louise Clegg of Alba, and Casey Clegg at home; her brother, Skip and Michelle Cavalier of Port Republic; sisters, Donna Shaw of Pomona, N.J. and Nancy Cavalier of Port Republic; grandsons, A.J. and Alec Clegg of Alba; and four nieces.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, at the Morse& Kleese Funeral Home Inc., 40 N. Center Street, Canton, Pa.

Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Willard Strunk of the Grover Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in Beech Flats Cemetery.
