LIVE at the COUNTY LIBRARY

The Friends of the Bradford County Library are pleased to announce that Laura Orshaw, acclaimed local musician, composer and singer will fiddle out the old year at the County Library on Friday, December 30, 2005.

The musical program includes Celtic, bluegrass, and oldtime fiddle music as well as original tunes from Laura's CD's. Laura's dad, Mark Orshaw, will provide backup.

Laura Orshaw learned to play mandolin and guitar from her grandmother, regional oldtime musician, Betty Orshaw. By age 13 she had recorded " The Grizzly Bear Chair" and in 2005 released, "Grandad's Flying Squirrels," a compilation of Southern Old-time, Bluegrass, Celtic fiddle tunes and vocals. Laura fiddles regularly with Northeastern Bluegrass band, "The Lonesome Road Ramblers." Currently a student at Mansfield University, Laura balances her schoolwork with performing and teaching.

Dennis R. Miller, producer and radio host of "My Country" heard over radio station WHGL, Troy, PA, has described Laura's music as performed with "love and a true appreciation for the joyful, haunting, and pioneering spirit." Bluegrass North Magazine says, "Laura Orshaw's second CD of old time fiddle tunes is joyful energy." "Laura Orshaw has firmly established herself as a significant emerging artist in the arena of traditional American music." Bluegrass Unlimited. "We are so pleased to have Laura and her Dad perform at the library," stated Marcene Billingsley, Treasurer of the Friends, "We've timed our New Year's Party just right, at 10:30 a.m. so all can attend. Remember to make your New Year's Resolution to use the library often."
