Betty L. Herman, 77, widow of John W. Herman of Dushore RR4, formerly of Church Street, Athens, passed away Monday evening, Dec. 2, 2002, at her home following declining health.
Born Aug. 20, 1925, in Towanda, she was a daughter of the late Harry F. and Myrtle D. Vanderpool Kunkle.
Betty's main interest in life was her home and family. She enjoyed making crafts and working in her flower garden.
Surviving are: five daughters, Wanda Kithcart of Dushore RR 4, Carol Decker of New Albany, Joyce Quinn of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Debra Dickinson of Wysox and Patricia Waltman of Dushore RR 4; two sons; Thomas Decker and his wife, Nancy Decker, of Rainier, Wash., and David Decker and his wife, Brenda Decker, of Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brother, John Kunkle of Towanda, Larry Kunkle and his wife, Paulette, of Liberty Corners, Robert Kunkle and his wife, Vina, of Herrickville; three sisters, Myrna Hamm and Lila Potter of Towanda, Virginia Anderson and her husband, William, of LeRaysville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very dear friend, Rose Bennett.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, John W. Herman, on Oct. 23, 1993; infant twin sons, Willard and William Herman; grandsons, Joseph Donald Tuttle, in May of 1975, and Carl Elliott, in August of 2000; her father, Harry F. Kunkle, on Dec. 29, 1983; her mother, Myrtle D. Vanderpool Kunkle, on Nov. 9, 1998; and a sister, Marian Detweiler, on Sept. 7, 1982.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Thomas Geiger, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, Towanda, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday afternoon at the funeral home.
